The tone was very serious, the mood does change into something that makes you feel frightened like you want to curl up into a ball. This shows when Anita and her brother were taken away from their nanny, Niania, when she is taken away by the Nazis, rescued, when the nurse tries to help her, you feel sad for her. The external conflict is when Anita tries to show that she is okay, also when the Nazis take them. The internal conflict is when Anita tries to stay strong on the outside, but on the inside she is a scared little girl. The symbolism is when Anita is given a necklace with the holy mother on it. She prays on it. The climax of the story is when Anita and everyone else are captured by the Nazis, because the story was working up to the moment when she and everyone else would eventually get caught. They falling action is after they are set free by the U.S. She goes to an institution with her brother. Then her parents come to get her out of the institution. She then moves to New York.
